How does solar battery storage work?
Solar batteries store excess energy generated by your panels during the day. This energy can be used at night to extend your solar day and during power outages, giving you greater energy independence. Battery management systems generally have a number of options of how you use the energy from your battery. We can look at your profile, tariffs and recommend settings based on your requirements.
I have a solar battery, but no power during power outages. What happened?
Having a battery does not automatically ensure you have power during a power outage. It depends on how your system was designed.
A solar battery can serve as an energy management tool to prevent excess solar energy to be exported to the grid at pennies on the dollar ($0.04 - $0.06 /kWh). Instead, the excess solar energy produced by your solar system goes to your battery and is stored there until it is used.
For a battery to provide backup energy during a power outage, the system has to be designed with a transfer switch.
